About our Rescue

RIP Sweet Destiny
We are a small group of people that all share the same passion for animals. We have all volunteered for other shelters and rescues. We finally decided that we were ready to start our own rescue to try to help animals that are stuck in high-kill shelters. Our goal is to be patient and thorough when searching for the best home for our animals. We are a group who will ask hard questions. We will be honest and we will always follow through in calling your references. We will not take any chances with the future of our animals! We will also not put the animals or adopters at risk. All animals are temperament tested before they are put up for adoption.
Please help Mama Chi Chi and Mama Mae!
Mama Chi Chi's Story:
On 3/22, Heroes and many others worked together to save Mama Chi Chi and her pups. She had been living under a building for a year and had multiple wounds that needed medical attention. We will need your support to help this family! Mama was believed to have been attacked by another dog. We believe based on the locations of her wounds that Chi Chi saved her 7* babies by laying over top of them. One of her babies recieved puncture wounds and was rescued 1 day prior, but had to be humanely euthanized.
Mama Chi Chi's body is covered in wounds that are infected. She also has horrible mastitis. It was so severe that one of her breasts exploded open because it was full of infection. She is being treated with two different antibiotics and her wounds are being flushed daily. Upon being checked out by our vet, it was discovered that her bottom teeth have been ground down and are separated from the gums. This makes eating very painful for her. But, she eats just to please us. She is a very sweet dog. We are hoping that her body can fight off all of the infections.
*One of the puppies was having breathing problems and sadly passed away on 3/27.
Mama Mae's Story:
On 3/23, Mama Mae needed us! She was tied to a tree without proper shelter. She came to us emaciated, scarred from sunburn and frostbite. Mae was also VERY pregnant weighing in at 55lbs. Two days later, on the 25th, Mae gave birth to 10* babies. Unfortunately one of those babies was stillborn. At this time she weighs 33lbs. These cuties are lucky to be alive. Their mama was surrendered to the local animal control officer and almost euthanized due to space.
Mama Mae is a first time mother, but doing very well. Mama Mae and babies have been checked over by our vet. Mama is now on two suppliments to help her to gain weight and it will help her skin to heal from the damage that's been done.
We would appreciate donations of Wee Wee Pads or Meijer brand pee pads, bleach, baby wipes, and Johnsons Baby Wash. You can donate directly to Hoover Road Animal Hospital 586-795-3500, Account #2238 Heroes Rescue.
*Daisy Mae, the runt of the litter, sadly passed away on 3/27.

Urgent! Fosters Needed
Heroes for Homeless Animals is in urgent need of good foster homes. We are constantly striving to save more lives. We pull most of our animals from Oakland County Animal Control, where all pit bulls are euthanized if we aren't able to bring them into our rescue. With your help, we can save more!
